Community Partners Project (CPP)
Our Community Partners Project (CPP) Service for Macedonian Aged
aims to provide the following;
• Promote and facilitate access to aged care services to
Macedonian aged people
• Provides information and referral to mainstream aged
care services
• Provides support to Macedonian older people through
groupwork support
• Undertakes community development activities
• Organises information and education workshops
• Facilitates and develops culturally appropriate resources
for Macedonian age
The project developed a Death and Dying Committee that produced a report on the Macedonian traditions and rituals when a person is in the final stages of their life - palliative care for the Macedonian community.
This report is aimed to assist aged care facilities and palliative care units to more appropriately meet the cultural needs of the Macedonian palliative care patients.
The CPP project offers support and assistance to community and residential aged care providers and services to improve their knowledge and awareness of the Macedonian culture. We have developed resources which include a Macedonian relaxation CD (13Mb mp3), a list of Macedonian common words (10Kb pdf), Macedonian visualisation tool (900Kb pdf), a Calendar of significant religious days (750Kb pdf), a Book of folk tales (280Kb pdf), and a Macedonian recipe book (2.2Mb).
Recently we have developed a Cultural briefing presentation (1Mb pdf) about Macedonian community aimed to facilitate better understanding of the past and present habits and attitudes in the Macedonian community.
In addition we have developed a Palliative care presentation (700Kb pdf) explaining Macedonian customs in relation to death and dying and the complexity of perception of the terminal ilnesses in Macedonian community.
These resources are readily available for download and distribution amongst community service providers and aged care facilities in order to help them gain a better understanding of their clients and provide more culturally appropriate care. The resources can also be mailed on request.
